In order to strengthen the gold, it is mixed with other metals and the higher the number of karats, the higher the concentration of gold in the mixture.

18K would be best chosen for the highest concentration of gold and color resemblance to the purest form. 18K might be best suited for fine jewelry for special occasions, as its softness might make them prone to scratches and damage.

14K is the best balance between durability and gold concentration. This is the best choice for everyday use fine jewerly.

9K is the best comprise for affordability and durability. It has the benefits of a solid gold jewerly at an affordable price. Due to the mixture with other metals, the gold might tarnish over time with everyday use, but you should be able to wipe it and refresh it quickly.
